10 Amazing Benefits Of Oatsmeal for Skin and Hair

We all know that a bowl of oatmeal is a healthy and delicious start to day, but it goes beyond that. Oats have amazing skin and hair benefits too. It is one of my favourite ingredient that i use in my products like cleansers, scrubs, body soaks, face masks and shampoo.

Listed are a few benefits using Oats for Skin and Hair

1. Oatsmeal. best known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant benefits is especially good for sensitive skin.

2. Oatsmeal benefits acne-prone skin. It contains zinc that reduced inflammation and kills the acne-causing bacteria.

3. Consuming oatmeal especially in the morning reduces water retention in body and thus prevents swelling on the face, under eyes and so on.

4. Oatmeal mixed with cool water is beneficial for chickenpox, sunburn, windburn, itchiness and eczema.

5. Oats make excellent cleanser. It contain compounds called saponins that act as natural cleansers and remove the dirt and oil from the pores without stripping skin of natural oils.

DIY 1-  Oats cleanser

Make a paste of Oats powder with raw-milk. Use this paste to cleanse face every morning. This will cleanse and lighten skin tone.

6. Oats can be used in bath for skin softening and gentle exfoliation. To do this, place half a cup of rolled oats in a cloth and tie it into a small bag. Place this bag in your bath-tub and squeeze until all the milk is out. Use this water for bath.

7. The proteins in oatmeal maintain the skin’s natural barrier. They even protect your skin from harsh pollutants and chemicals. The lubricating fats in oats aid in UV protection. This also makes it highly moisturizing.

8. Hair products infused with Oats can treat dandruff, hair loss, itchy scalp and prevent excess oil and dirt.

9. Finely powdered oats can be used as dry shampoo as it absorbs excess oil.

10. Oats are rich in Omega-6 fatty acids that help fix damaged hair. The nutrients in them make your hair stronger and scalp healthier. They also make it shinier and silkier.

DIY 2- Oats hair mask

This mask controls hair-fall and moisturizes hair leaving them silky and shiny.

Whiteheads prevention and removal

Whiteheads are a mild form of acne that appear as small, round, white bumps on the skin's surface. Whiteheads develop when dead skin cells, sebum (oil), and dirt clog your pores. As whiteheads are closed off from the outside air, they remain white If such whiteheads were to open sufficiently to allow the outside air in, they would turn into blackheads.
White heads is a very common skin condition particularly affecting teens. This appears mostly on the face, neck, chest and back.

Causes for Whiteheads
  • Excessive sweating.
  • Hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy and mensuration
  • Genetic predisposition.
  • Inferior quality cosmetics.

Prevention of Whitehead
  • Ensuring a strong immune system and a healthy lifestyle will go a long way in preventing it.
  • Regular meals with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Avoid sugar and processed foods.
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to hydrate the skin and get rid of all toxins.
  • Increase your Vit D level and improve your skin appearance. Consider D3 supplements if you don't get enough sunlight.
Skincare
  • Keeping your skin clear is most important. Wash face 2-3 times using gentle cleanser, lukewarm water. Pat dry, do not rub.
  • Exfoliate affected area a few times a week. It helps by removing dead skin that can clog pores. Avoid harsh scrubs which can cause skin irritation and spread bacteria.
  • Wash your hair regularly. Oil from hair can clog pores. Keeping hair away from face will also help.
If you wear make-up, there are a few other things you should keep in mind
  • Remove your makeup every night.
  • Look for makeup products labeled 'oil-free' and 'noncomedogenic'. These are less likely to clog your pores.
  • Never share makeup or applicators.
Whiteheads removal
Unlike blackheads, which can be pushed out, whiteheads are closed within the pore. This can make treatment a bit more challenging.
Ironically, the first step to whitehead treatment is to do nothing, yes absolutely nothing. Touching your face not only invites more pore-clogging dirt, oil, and bacteria, but it can also cause irritation and scarring. Your best bet is to explore other removal and preventive measures.

Home remedy
After cleansing apply mild steam to the area which softens the skin and opens up the pores for further cleaning. Apply a gentle skin toner after steaming and cleaning to close the pores again or you can apply an ice block wrapped in a soft cotton cloth to the whiteheads. You can do this 2-3 times a week till the whiteheads are completely gone.
Tip: A glass of water with a slice of lemon in it will be a natural detox as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Natural remedies
Tea tree oil is touted as natural inflammatory and anti-microbial. These benefits could help clear up white heads. You could use the oil as is look for tea-tree oil in skin care items like cleansers and masks.

DIY Face-mask for White-head removal
Ingredients:
Aloe-vera (fresh) - 1tsp
Tea-tree oil - 3-4 drops
Rose water - 2tsp
Mix it all in a bowl and make a runny paste. Apply this on face after cleansing and toning, night-time. Wash off after 15min. Do this for a week to see the difference.

Feeling motivated..

I got this mail a couple of days back, thought of sharing. It would be nice to have her pic as well here, anyway will check with her. In the meantime see what she has to say about her experience.

I am Sushmita and a mother of 10 year old daughter. I have always been a great admirer of chemical free beauty products and used to make many such remedies for myself and friends during collage days. I am also allergic to parabens in creams and lotions. They made my skin more sun sensitive. But as life’s responsibilities increased I got less and less time for my skin care resulting in dull, uneven toned skin with small spots starting. I tried many on the counter remedies which did more harm than good. I came to know about Deepika from a Facebook group and wrote to her as I knew that only homemade fresh and chemical free products can help restore my skin. She called me and asked about my skin problems and sent over custom made products which had cleanser toner, serum and scrubs. I stopped using soap as she advised and started using her cleanser. I noticed the difference in a day as my skin felt smooth and soft. The serum containing essential oils was perfectly absorbed by my skin and it glowed in the morning. It’s been 15 days since and it’s even toned now. One point I would like to mention is I keep all of the products in refrigerator as it maintains the freshness and the nutrients of the serum.
I am a physicist turned a green living advocate and I would like to say that anything which is kept on shop shelves with an expiry of several months is not a herbal product anymore as it contains chemicals to preserve it. Even the simple rosewater contains all the parabens i(check the label). Such chemicals harm our bodies as well as the environment by entering the waterways. I would like to recommend Deepika’s products as they are harmless to environment as well.

Look who we have here with us..another guest

Its been quite sometime i posted a blog. Here's to new beginning and what better beginning than with someone who motivated me to pursue this passion.

I've known Sangeeta for over 10years from my college days. It was just a budding thought that i discussed with her during one of your ladies day. She motivated and showed belief in my idea. She was the one to say yes you can do it and do it well. Thanks for being so supportive Sangeeta.

One thing i've always liked about her is that she's straight forward and doesn't mince words. She's always given me honest feedback be it quantity, or pricing. Her opinion means a lot to me as it helped me make the products better. Now getting to the point without wasting time. Over to Sangeeta!

Hi friends I am sangeeta who is a mother of 4 year old baby girl. I am sure every mom feels special when they get compliments from their  husbands, children, friends, relatives.  With this busy lifestyle I really try to maintain my skin with some homemade products

What do I do for living?
By profession I am a high school teacher and as all of u know teaching is really a tough job and a big responsibility so  hardly I used to get time to take care of my skin and  I started having some problem on my skin like patches, rashes , breakouts  almost lost my glow and my skin became very sensitive to the cosmetic products also so, I was looking for some homemade products which will be convenient to use….

My beauty regime….When I came to know that Deepika makes some homemade beauty products I immediately ask suggestions from her. She has really guided me with her products which I usually use at night before going to bed…morning time I use sunscreen.

My favourite products of Deepika’s are:
1. Cleansing
2. Face serum
3. Face wash
.
The above products have helped me to get my glow back. The product which helped me recently is the face wash, I suddenly developed some red  patches on my cheeks  I tried many things on my face but all were in vain…no moisturiser was getting absorbed by my skin it was that bad condition then using the face wash for two weeks regularly day and night I got the result. My skin was clear like before..
So,  I would  like to suggest the readers that the above three products u must try and you will feel the
difference.

What more I am looking forward to?

Lip and cheek stain

There's something so appealing and youthful about flushed cheeks and rosy lips. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with a perpetual glow and just-bitten-looking lips.

During my college days I had chronic dry lips. It took forever for the dryness to go away. I used lip balms which kept lips hydrated till it stayed. I began using a concotion of oils for overnight treatment and it helped to a large extent. My love for lip balms remained as they were more convenient to use. People who know me, know my love for lip balms. You'll never find me without one. I have one near my desk at work, my handbag, in bathroom. Can't live without it. Sadly even the tinted lip balms don't satisfy me for the color.

I had a few lipsticks lying around as i hardly use lipsticks cos they dry my lips. I googled for some ideas and came up with a lip cum cheek stain which i'm going to review here. I've been using it for over a month and not missed my lipsticks. I plan to make more in different colors, shall update this page as and when i do.

Note: It's not all natural as the lipstick used here is regular. However other ingredients used are all natural.

Benefits:
  • Contains shea butter, olive oil and Vit E.
  • Keeps lips hydrated, makes them smooth and supple.
  • Just a tint ensures natural stain which doesn't looks made up.
  • Can be used on lips and cheeks as well for natural stain.
  • Pigmentation can be tuned to requirement. Repeated application for deeper color. Refer swatch.
  • Stays on for more than 3 hours.
  • Less chemicals.
  • Easy to carry, leak-proof.
  • Customised color and consistency.
  • Use your unwanted bright lipsticks.

How to use

Step 1: Choose the right stain
Pick a shade that compliments your skin tone. Keep in mind that stain in bottle looks darker than on your skin.

Step 2: Prep your skin
Wash your face with a cleanser to slough off dead skin, which will help even out skin tone. Then, apply a light moisuturizer all over your face.

Step 3:  Apply stain
Use your fingertips or a makeup sponge and smile as you blend the color onto the apples of your cheeks. . Let it dry. Reapply if you need more color.
For lips, apply evenly with index finger. Reapply whenever necessary.

Night skin care routine

We all know we should wash our face at night and remove any makeup before going to bed. But did you know your nighttime routine can affect how your skin looks the next day?

The benefits of a night skin care routine include improving skin tone and color, reducing skin blemishes, and hydrating and rejuvenating the skin. Establishing a night skin care routine will allow the skin to breathe, heal, and restore to a healthy young glow.

Here is the basic 4-step skincare regime which will help you glow. The products are all natural, organic and home-made.

Step 1: Cleansing
If you wear make up, the first step is to use a quality make-up remover to remove make up. You can use the oil based serum here which gently removes make-up. To cleanse face gently massage cleanser into the skin. Wash your face and neck with warm water and rinse off thoroughly. Here's more about the product Cleanser

Step 2: Exfoliate
It is recommended that you use an exfoliator that will penetrate deeper and help remove blackheads. You should exfoliate only 1-2 times a week; more often can dry your skin. Here's more about the product  Exfoliator

Step 3: Tone
Using an alcohol free toner will help restore the pH of the skin and remove any remaining oils and makeup. It also helps in minimizing the pore size and making the skin tone even. One can moisten a cotton ball and gently pat the toner over the face and neck.  Here's more about the product Toner.

Step 4: Moisturize
When you wash your face, you wash away essential oils and moisturizing your skin helps replenish it. Take an extra couple minutes and use a deep moisturizer on the extra dry areas of your body, such as elbows, knees, heels, hands and feet. An all natural serum is a good choice because they do not contain any chemicals or harsh additives. Using serum helps protect collagen, reduce redness and discoloration, and reduces age spots, fine lines, brown spots, and wrinkles Both serums and moisturizers help bring new cells to the surface revealing a smoother and softer complexion. Here's more about the product Serum

Establishing a nightly skin care routine will only take about five minutes of your time.  By implementing a nightly care routine, your skin will maintain a youthful appearance longer as well as staying smooth, soft, clear, and most importantly, healthy.

Name
Deepthi is my name and friends call me Deep.

More about myself

Hi, I am Deepthi Chetan, a mother of 4-year-old girl, it takes a lot to be called “my beautiful mom” from the angel who is as beautiful and gorgeous as god can create. With a busy lifestyle, in this small little world of my own, I try to create and develop my handmade products.

I am actually an Editor who turned to a homemaker in accordance to give my daughter utmost time and love. I was hardly left with any time for myself and especially my skin didn’t get any attention after my angel was born.  Soon she grew and started schooling and I had time for myself.

What do I do for living?
Budding entrepreneur. A multitasker trying to put my creativity to test.

Hobbies?
Apart from creating my products, I love to watch pencil sketch, cooking, baking and sometime I do watch a little bit of TV programs if time permits.

My beauty regime?
There was no word in my world called beauty regime till I met Deepika. Having known the importace of it, I have started up with cleansing, toning and moisturizing my daily (mostly during the  night). During the day I dab my skin with sunscreen (SPF 30 and SPF 50 on sunny days).

My favourite product?
So far all of Deepika’s products have been my favorites. Apart from her products I have been using Lotus herbals sunscreen and Neutrogena sunscreen. BB creams very rarely.

Beauty essentials in my handbag
Got to be Body mist by Deepika, Khol pencil, SPF lip balm, Sunscreens for sure.

My association with these products
Meeting  Deepika, I would say was purely a co-incidence and my luck.  I actually got what I was searching for in her; a good friend, a well-wisher, an advisor and over the top, she was a beauty expert who made her own products.  Later, I learnt that she was making her own beauty products which consist of oils and all-natural ingredients mostly available in kitchen. Well, that was hard to believe.  She then gave me a sample of her routine that she used that consists of mostly oils. I was very skeptical about using oils, as I have oily skin and breakouts every now and then.  But, I am happy that I tried it though.

Products that I’ve tried
Face care regime which consist of cleanser, toner, serum and facial scrub.
·         Hair tonic and hair oil.
·         Body scrub and body oil.
·         Eye serum
·         Lip tint (for kids)
·         Jelly soap (for kids)

My take on these beauty products
Firstly daily regime helped me clear my spots and tackle my pimple breakouts which was my major concern. Hair tonic again is a wonderful remedy for dandruff and hairfall issues.  Coffee scrubs softens ur elbows and rough areas. Eye serum is really wonderful products if you have a stressful lifestyle.  It eases out puffy eyes.  Lip tint is a wonderful innovation which stains the lip in a natural way. Bath jelly is a fun way to get your kids involved in bath. Bath oil substitutes the body lotion.

What more am I looking forward to
Body mist  and some products to help me with tanning problems
